BS 25999 | Business Continuity Management

BS 25999 | Business Continuity Management - An overview of the British Standards Institute for Business Continuity Management and Planning.

BS 25999 is the British Standards Institution’s (BSI) British Standard for Business Continuity Management (BCM). The British Standard BS25999 has 2 parts; the first part gives overall guidance in the field of Business Continuity Management in determining BCM processes and the relating practices and terminology used.

The second part of BS 25999, details the requirement analysis, implementation, and continuous improvement of the BCM process that a business shall adhere to if it is to meet the requirements of BS 25999.

BS 25999, in comparison to the similar US standard NFPA 1600, seeks to analyze and understand the company’s core business, and then develop a programme and supporting processes to match the requirements.

It's important to distinguish Business Continuity with Disaster recovery - this is dealt with in a little more detail in our brief article Business Continuity vs Disaster Recovery.
