Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service is the countywide emergency fire and rescue service for Lancashire
LFRS retains BCT to provide a single-point-of-contact solution for resilience accommodation and/or travel in exceptional emergency circumstances. In December 2015 exceptional circumstances occurred. The Met Office issued a 'red alert' to Lancashire, warning residents of 'severe disruption to travel and danger to life'. Torrential rain caused flooding in northern England. Lancashire was one of the worst affected. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service mobilised all of its boats and fire engines, responding to around 350 incidents. When it became clear that evacuations would be required LFRS contacted BCT.
BCT responded quickly and effectively to LFRS request for accommodation for 120 people despite it coming at short notice during the Christmas holidays when hotels are always busy. BCT staff worked tirelessly, in many cases putting their own festive plans on hold, to ensure the contract was fulfilled.
Having the contract in place made operating control (OPCON) and being the ‘host’ Fire and Rescue Service orders of magnitude easier than it otherwise could have been – a real step forward, thank you.
